It's never too late or early enough to start preparing for the year ahead, whether you're new to the district or a returning scholar. Elementary: 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Middle School: 7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m.; Rayen Early College Middle School-7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 
High School: Chaney-8:00 a.m.-2:42 p.m.; Choffin- 8:40 a.m.-2:40 p.m.; East-8:00 a.m.-2:53 p.m.; 
Youngstown Rayen Early College High School-7:35 a.m.-2:36 p.m.
Wilson Alternative School and Virtual Academy: 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

  • How do I register my scholar who will be new to the district for the school year? YCSD transitioned to FinalForms, where all necessary forms, like registration and medical documents, are to be completed.   • Is transportation offered? Youngstown City Schools Transportation Department will provide transportation for eligible PreK-8 resident scholars. High school transportation is not available, unless designated in a scholar's IEP. The WRTA is an alternative high schoolers may utilize https://www.wrtaonline.com. For more information, visit the

  • Cell phone policy: I

    n May 2024, Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 250, requiring Ohio school districts to create policies on cell phone usage to reduce student use during school hours. YCSD, which already prohibited electronic devices, introduced Yondr pouches to secure cell phones and Bluetooth devices during school hours. The pouches secure a scholars' electronic and Bluetooth devices until the end of the school day.

  • Breakfast and Lunch: All enrolled scholars receive no cost breakfast and lunch during the school year. Menus are updated monthly.

  • How does the district communicate with families?

    YCSD uses various channels to communicate important information to families. It is essential that we have current contact details and that families do not opt out of any communications from the district. The following channels will be used to provide updates, including emergency notifications:

    • Text messages

    • Website

    • Social media (Facebook, Instagram, X (formally Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube

Scholar Athletes

YCSD is proud to offer our scholars extracurricular sports in the district's upgraded and new athletics facilities.

Student Services

As a local school district, we have the responsibility to identify and evaluate all children with disabilities. The department provides support services for all students.

All schools maintain their own calendars, but the central events section is where you'll find board meeting dates, graduation dates, and lists of special events.

Homelessness Support Services

The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children and Youth Program is to ensure that all children and youth, including preschoolers, have equal access to the same free and appropriate public education as non-homeless children and youth.

Nursing Services

The district provides avenues to school-based health and resources.

No cost Breakfast and Lunch

Good nutrition and education go hand-in-hand. All enrolled scholars eat breakfast and lunch at no cost.
